Southern Immersion Program

PC is the perfect place to discover this distinctive part of the United States. The Southern Immersion Program (SIP) is an exciting program that not only specializes in improving students’ English skills, but also provides plentiful opportunities for students to explore, understand, and fully experience the culture of the American South through carefully selected courses and unique travel experiences.


Students applying for the Southern Immersion Program must:

  • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate institution
  • Meet the minimum English level scores: TOEFL: 480, iBT: 54-55, IELTS: 5.5, or TOEIC: 610

Application Requirements

To apply students must submit the following by email to

  • Nomination Form: to be completed by your international advisor
  • Application
  • University transcripts
  • One recent photograph (copy of passport page preferred)
  • Official score report of English proficiency (TOEFL, iBT, IELTS, or TOEIC)
  • Medical Form

Course Selection

SIP students will enroll in the following core courses:

  • ENGL 105 – English as a Second Language
  • SOST 205 – Introduction to Southern Studies
  • ECON 258 – Economics and Contemporary Issues

Students will also be able to choose one or two elective courses from the list below:

  • ENGL 109 Composition
  • MDST 230 Introduction to Media Services
  • ENGL 258 Introduction to Southern Film
  • ECON 201 Principles of Macroeconomics
  • ECON 318 International Trade
  • HIST 2200 American History
  • PSYC 201 Introductory Psychology
  • ART 110 Survey of Western Art
  • Modern Languages: French, Spanish, and German

For the elective courses, SIP students will enroll with Presbyterian College students, providing an excellent opportunity for international students to meet new people and truly experience life as a college student in the American South.
