Bernard H. "Bunny" Boyd was a native of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and graduated from Presbyterian College in 1932.  He later received degrees from Princeton University, Princeton Seminary, and Union Theological Seminary in Virginia.  He taught Bible at PC from 1936-1947, and later taught religion for 25 years at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  There he served as religion department chairman, as James A. Gray professor of Biblical literature, and as the leader of numerous archaelogical expeditions to the Holy Land.  During the war, he served as a chaplain in the Marine Corps, and received a purple heart for wounds sustained at the battle for Okinawa.  He died in 1975.  Surviving him was his widow, Thelma Hicklin Boyd, who wrote some of the letters included in this collection.
