The first step for most research projects is to find books on your topic.
Books contain background, in-depth information, giving you a broader understanding of your topic . . . and ideas for keywords to use in searches!

THOMCAT, the library's online catalog, will direct you to titles on your topic, tell you where they are located in the library, and whether or not they are checked out. THOMCAT includes all print book, CD, and DVD titles available at Thomason Library, as well as scholarly websites and digital collections on the web. Titles of journals and newspapers are also in THOMCAT, but NOT titles of articles in journals. Many ebook titles are included in THOMCAT and soon all ebooks titles will be available through a THOMCAT search. |
eBooks at Thomason Library include several collections of e-reference encyclopedias and over 5,000 EBSCO eBook titles (formerly NetLibrary). Encyclopedia & Reference Collections ebrary Academic Complete Collection is a large collection of electronic books covering a vast array of topics and themes. Tutorials are available to introduce you to downloading books from this collection and saving these books to your personal bookshelf. EBSCO eBook Collection can be searched at this link or in THOMCAT, the library catalog. The collection includes career titles as well as books on a wide variety of topics. In THOMCAT, many eBooks are identified with an icon like this:

PASCAL Catalog, the South Carolina statewide college library catalog, may have additional books on your topic that can be borrowed from other colleges in the state. Through the PASCAL Delivers service, you can order books on your topic as you search in the PASCAL Catalog. Delivery to Thomason Library is usually within 3-4 days and is a free service. |
WorldCat will identify books on your topic that are available in libraries worldwide. Search by title, subject, or keywords related to your topic. Titles owned by Thomason Library will be highlighted in your search results. Books found in this catalog that are not available at PC or in the PASCAL Catalog can be ordered through Interlibrary Loan. |
