True to Presbyterian College’s liberal arts tradition, the college’s mathematics department is dedicated to the study not only of numbers but also to the development of analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills that are essential in today’s world and valued in a wide variety of careers.

PC’s math department offers three major courses of study:

  • Traditional Math – for students who want to concentrate on the study of mathematics in order to pursue math as a career or to continue the study of mathematical sciences in graduate school
  • Applied Math – for students who want to combine their study of mathematics with an in-depth study of biology, chemistry, computer science, economics/business, physics, political science, psychology, or sociology
  • Mathematics Education – for students who are interested in teaching secondary school mathematics. Along with math courses, students must also complete courses in education, psychology, and the liberal arts that are required for teacher certification.
