OPERA AND MUSICAL THEATER WORKSHOP – MUSC 1603

PC has a thriving and active opera and musical theater program.  Dr. Christian Elser is the director of these programs at PC and he has an extensive background in both mediums as an director and performer.

In 2012-2013, Dr. Elser produced THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE to acclaim, receiving an award for “Best Entertainment Event” from PC’s Student Union.  In addition to this undertaking, the opera and musical theater workshop also prepared and studied scenes from multiple operatic and theatrical works.

In 2013-2014, the PC Opera and Music Theater Workshop performed GODSPELL – a work that, through more than 40 years old now, maintains a powerful allure.  Great music – fabulous story – delighted told by Stephen Schwartz.

Major productions are frequently cast in the preceding academic spring, with the cast fully complete by early fall term.  Through exercises and lessons in stagecraft, acting, and vocal coaching, the cast prepares through the fall term, returning to campus in January (following the Christmas break) for a three-week blitz of rehearsals leading up to three magnificent performances at the end of May.
