JULIE FOWLIS http://juliefowlis.com/
Julie Fowlis is a groundbreaking artist who continues to entice new audiences worldwide and push accepted musical boundaries with her adaptations of songs from her native Scottish Gaelic tradition. It is little wonder that when Disney Pixar (Finding Nemo, Toy Story, Up) was searching for the perfect, authentic singing voice to feature in the soundtrack to Brave, their new 3D animated blockbuster set in 10th century Scotland, their research led them to one of the country’s true contemporary treasures – Julie Fowlis.
Brought up on North Uist in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides, Fowlis has been a proud standard bearer for Gaelic music and culture over the course of a solo career which has spanned three award-winning studio albums and numerous highly acclaimed projects and collaborations. Julie Fowlis is no stranger to awards and distinctions, winning Gaelic Singer of the Year & Album of the Year (on two occasions) at the Scots Trad Music Awards, plus several other major accolades including Folk Singer of the Year at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. She is perhaps most proud of her award as Scotland’s Gaelic Ambassador- ‘Tosgaire na Gàidhlig’, bestowed by the Scottish Parliament in 2008, the first person to ever receive this honor. Julie has graced the stage at notable venues around the world including London’s Barbican, the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Mozart Concert Hall in Vienna, Edinburgh Castle, Glasgow and Dublin Concert Halls, and in the autumn of 2012 performed to a worldwide audience of millions for the closing ceremony of the USA hosted 2012 Ryder Cup in Medina, Illinois. She still finds time for collaborations with other musicians and has worked with artists as diverse as Bill Whelan (Riverdance), John McCusker, Eddi Reader, Danú, and Salsa Celtica. As part of the internationally acclaimed Transatlantic Sessions 4 series on the BBC, she has also sung with artists such as James Taylor, Martha Wainwright, Stuart Duncan, Dònal Lunny and Liam O’Maonlai (Hothouse Flowers), among many others. She was awarded the position of Artist in Residence at the Tobar an Dualchais/Kist O’ Riches national online digital archive in 2012 and continues to promote the use and awareness of this incredible resource. Julie has released six critically acclaimed recordings for the Shoeshine, Machair, and Macmeanmna labels, and has been a guest artist on numerous others.

HUMPHRIES, ISLEY, AND MULVAHILL
Some of PC’s favorite sons will be visiting the campus this coming January after several years of making a name for themselves nationally and internationally. Stephen Humphries is remembered for his derring -do on the hammered dulcimer, but he has been performing and teaching as a percussionist out of Chattanooga, TN. Jesse Isley has spent the past few years in Nashville, TN, and has become one of Nashville’s fastest rising jam and studio guitarist, having recently returned from a tour with the USO in the Middle East and from touring with the Will Hoge Band. Their musical colleague Will Mulvahill is scheduled to appear with them if his appearances with Ricky Skaggs do not interfere. Traditional music, original tunes, and great stories from PC’s own.
