New students are an accomplished class

August 20, 2009

Over 390 new PC students, including freshmen and transfers, arrived on campus Thursday, August 20 to begin orientation. They, along with upperclassmen, will begin classes on Monday, August 24.

Altogether, the new students are a class of servant leaders, having accumulated over 30,000 hours of service to others.

“You will certainly be at home here at PC,” Dean of Admissions Leni Patterson told the students during an orientation event on Thursday.

The new class is accomplished in other areas as well. The students are scholars, including several National Merit Finalists and Semi-finalists, valedictorians and salutatorians, and Robert Byrd scholars. Others boast various academic awards and achievements.

Many of the students have been recognized for their leadership, earning Eagle Scout and Gold awards, serving as class presidents and yearbook editors, and attending Boys State and Girls State.

Others still have earned numerous accolades for their athletic accomplishments, including several Wendy’s Heisman nominees and recipients, over 40 team captains, and regional and all-state award winners.

“You will have the opportunity to build on your accomplishments up to this point and to explore more areas in which to excel,” Patterson said.

The students arrived at PC from 19 different states, including all of the southeastern states plus, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Texas. They also arrived from Scotland, England, Korea and Ireland.
