PC to celebrate 131st academic year during Opening Convocation

Presbyterian College’s 131st formal Opening Convocation will be held Sept. 7 in Belk Auditorium.
The 11 a.m. convocation will herald the beginning of the 2010-11 academic year with a state of the college address by PC's new dean of religious life, the Rev. Dr. Jeri Parris Perkins.
The college also will present honors to two worthy Clinton residents.
Rufus E. Sadler, a local pharmacist and the former co-owner of Sadler-Hughes Apothecary in Clinton, will receive an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters.
Sadler is a graduate of Clinton High School, the U.S. Naval Academy, and the University of South Carolina. He is a member of the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce, and was past president of the Clinton United Way. He also was a charter member of the Clinton Rotary Club and a past chairman of the S.C. Board of Pharmacy.
He and his wife, Mary, have five children and 13 grandchildren.
PC and First Presbyterian Church of Clinton will present the Martha Anne Green Service to Church and College Award to Jim Roberts of Clinton.
A longtime member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Clinton, Roberts is the founder of the Good Shepherd Free Medical Clinic in Laurens County, where he volunteered for five years as the clinic’s director. He also has volunteered for the Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and the Laurens County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
He and his wife, Jan, a former major gifts officer for PC, have four children and eight grandchildren.
