January 7, 2010
After working five months as an NBC Page, Ashley McCollum ’09 has been named Coordinator of NBC News Communications. She will work with the Vice President of NBC News Communications and with all the publicists for news programs including Today, Meet The Press, Nightly News, Dateline, and MSNBC.
“I also get to work with the talent and anchors of all the shows which, to me, is the coolest thing in the world,” McCollum said.
In addition, McCollum is responsible for inviting, checking in, and managing all photographers for the Today Concert Series. This year, she has worked the Alicia Keys, Susan Boyle, and Bon Jovi concerts.
McCollum also writes the TiVo, DVR, and “guide button” blurbs that describe what’s happening on Today episodes. Plus, she works with Today and Meet the Press producers to write press releases about the shows’ upcoming guests and segments. And she researches the best way to capitalize on Twitter as a form of mass communication.
"I’m so happy to have started my career at NBC,” McCollum said. “NBC feels like family, and I want to make it home."
While at PC, McCollum majored in economics and minored in political science, history, and international studies. The President’s Intern during her senior year, McCollum served four years in Student Government Association, as secretary of Honor Council, and as vice president of recruitment for Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.
