Alumna named editor of law review

June 4, 2009

Brittany J. Flowe ’07 was recently named Lead Articles Editor of the Mercer Law Review Editorial Board for the 2009 - 2010 year. Flowe is a member of the 2010 class of The Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law, a top 100 law school with the nation’s leading legal writing program.

“Our law review,” Flowe said, “has established a reputation as one of the best practice-oriented legal journals in the Southeast, and I'm proud to be associated with it.”

The English and political science major while at PC credits her undergraduate professors for success at Mercer.

“While it was painful at the time,” she said, “I am certain now that I owe my success in law school to those professors who constantly required me to write, edit, and rewrite over and over again.”

Flowe is interested in learning more about labor and employment litigation, environmental law, and securities litigation. She says that PC provided her excellent overall preparation for law school, in addition to honing her writing skills.

“For four years, I was blessed to be surrounded by faculty and staff who truly made an investment in my future by expecting excellence in the classroom and encouraging leadership in organizations,” she said.

“Most importantly, my experience at PC inspired me to seek a career rooted in service.  I started law school confident that I had the unique training necessary to become a strong writer and oral advocate.  And while nothing can quite prepare anyone for their first year of law school, I certainly would not have survived were it not for the lasting friendships I made at PC.”

While at PC, Flowe served as Student Body President, a Vice President of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, a member of Honor Council, a volunteer at Thornwell Home, a Sterling tour guide, and a member of several other honor societies and organizations.

She also spent a semester studying abroad in Florence, Italy.

Flowe is the second PC alumna named editor of her law review in as many years. In 2008, Katie Fowler '02 was named law review editor-in-chief at the Charleston School of Law.

Flowe says that PC alumni succeed in graduate school for several reasons.

“PC students were surrounded by their extremely talented peers,” she said. “Because of this, PC students learn to hold themselves accountable and are able to find a balance in their lives.  I believe that PC graduates succeed in what they do because they have a unique work ethic coupled with a strong desire to give back to their communities.”
