Lexington Medical Center donates to the School of Pharmacy

May 4, 2009

Barbara Willm, Vice President of Community Relations for Lexington Medical Center, presents a check to Dr. Griffith and Dr. Stull.
Lexington Medical Center recently showed its support of the Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy by donating to the Founders’ Campaign. The Lexington Medical Center’s donation will help PC with startup costs related to the pharmacy school.

“This gift will allow us to continue to develop a pharmacy program that will touch the lives of many people in South Carolina,” said Dr. Richard Stull, the dean of the Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy. “Better healthcare will be available, and the lives of young pharmacy students will be impacted.”

Stull says the school will partner with the Lexington Medical Center to bring faculty and students to the center and to its network of community clinics.

“We are excited that the college elected to expand their curriculum to include pharmacy,” said Barbara Willm, VP of Community Relations for the hospital system. “This discipline is an important component in the delivery of health care.”

Lexington Medical Center supports continuing education and workforce development throughout the region.

“We look forward to working with Presbyterian College as a site for pharmacy clinical rotations and contributing to the overall educational experience of their students,” Willm said.

Lexington Medical Center’s network of care includes a 384-bed hospital, six community medical centers throughout Lexington County, the largest extended care facility in the state, an occupational health center, and affiliated physician practices.

With its first class of 80 students scheduled to matriculate in the fall of 2010, the Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy provides pharmacy education with a liberal arts college approach, integrating classroom learning with practical experience-- emphasizing community, valuing each student, and focusing on patient care.
