Professors, student lead summer music at Montreat
May 26, 2009
Dr. Porter Stokes, PC music department chair, and Dr. Ron Davis, music professor, will serve as music directors, while Andrew Morehead, a rising senior and music major, will serve as worship coordinator during Montreat Conference Center’s Summer Worship series. The program begins Sunday, May 31 in Montreat's Anderson Auditorium at 11 AM.
“It is our hope and desire,” Stokes said, “to provide in-depth planning and rehearsal that will lead to music that is part of the worship experience, not music that is a performance within the worship experience.”
Stokes and Davis will coordinate with Montreat music team members to arrange all worship music during the summer. Morehead will play the organ and coordinate music with liturgy and pastoral leaders.
“Bob Keener, former Summer Music Director at Montreat, worked tirelessly for over two decades to enhance our summer worship experience with talented choirs and musicians,” said Merri Bass, Worship Team member and Vice President of Program Development and Marketing at Montreat.
“We are deeply grateful for the gift of Bob’s ministry. Our partnership with Presbyterian College will continue Montreat’s tradition of excellence in new and exciting ways.”
