Campuswide health services update regarding the flu
The campus community is encouraged to take the following precautions regarding the flu:
- Wash your hands often. Use soap and warm water.
- If you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth. If you don't have a tissue, use your sleeve.
- Stay home and get well. Stop the spread of flu to others.
- Ask a doctor about flu shots. Getting a flu shot each year is the best way to prevent the flu.
For specific guidelines PC has followed and will continue to follow guidance from the Center for Disease Control and the Laurens County Health Department and the Department of Health and Environmental Control. Specifically, the college has taken these steps:
- Adding sanitizing gel dispensers in GDH and (soon) in Springs and other key locations about campus
- Training: housekeeping about the recommendations for wiping common surfaces and inspections to soap in restrooms; food service staff per Sodexho corporate directives; fitness center staff
- Asking housekeeping to wipe down fitness center machines at least once per day in addition to what student workers are expected to do
- Departmental meetings in athletics to discuss contingencies if there is a flu outbreak on home or visiting team campus/squad
- Ordering extra cleaning supplies
- Ordering appropriate masks for staff who may have to work with sick students
- Preparing communications from CDC-provided models
- Meeting with county and other agencies
- Looking into options for isolation in local motels for students who cannot go home, if needed
- Assigning responsibilities for CDC-recommended steps
