Sorority raises money, awareness for breast cancer

September 25, 2009

Zeta Tau Alpha sorority raised more than $6,300 during its fourth annual Pink Out campaign on Saturday, September 19.

“This money will be sent to the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation and then will go directly to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to support breast cancer research and awareness,” said ZTA president Carmen Houston.

The sorority raised the money by hosting a Pink Out Cookout on Saturday and by selling Pink Out t-shirts and sunglasses. They also accepted donations and received support from sponsors.

To raise awareness of breast cancer, fans were encouraged to wear pink to the PC football game against UT-Chattanooga . The release of pink balloons before the game and the survivor walk during halftime also helped raise awareness.

“Pink Out went very well,” Houston said. “It was amazing to see the stadium on Saturday filled with pink.”
