Academic Resources for your student

Academic Advising

Your entering PC student will be assigned a professor who will serve as his or her academic advisor. When your student declares a major, he or she will select an advisor within the appropriate academic discipline.

Students meet with their advisor each term to plan course selections. They are also encouraged to visit with them on a regular basis. The academic advisor is a part of the extensive academic support for students. Professors meet with students individually to assist them in their course work if needed, and many freshman courses offer evening help sessions to assist students with their studies. The college Writing Center helps students adjust to the demands of college writing.

Students may also visit with the Career Services office staff to help establish educational and career goals and strategies for success.

You will have an opportunity to meet your student's advisor during freshmen orientation. Later in the fall we hope you will join us for a special Parents' Weekend visit to campus. You will have the opportunity to enjoy social events with your student and meet again with their advisor and other professors.

Career Services and Internships

The Career Services and Internships office will offer your student programs and services that encourage them to become active planners of their educational and career future. In addition to helping your student develop the decision-making and goal-setting skills essential to successful planning, the career services staff offers self-assessment through psychological instruments to measure educational and vocational interests as well as personality traits.

An extensive educational and career resource center, coordination of internship prospects, and summer work opportunities are also available to your student.

The Career Services and Internships staff maintain contact with graduate programs, industry, commerce, and various school systems to assist with the placement of your student. They provide on-campus interviews and seminars on resume preparation and job search skills. An annual Career Fair, Education Center Day, Graduate-Professional Schools Fair, and Senior Interview Day will help your student as well.
