Thank you to all of our Basketball Letterman who returned to campus this weekend to celebrate our wonderful basketball program. We were honored to have so many great athletes come back and share their stories with us as we celebrate Letterman's Day.
The 13 former Lady blue hose and coaches met in Mabry Smith Yonce on Saturday February 17 to celebrate the past 30 years as a program. Former players and coaches chatted over lunch about game-days and long practices.
Kathy Hammond Chessman ' 81 and Caprice Mellon '81 shared the trials and successes of the first team in 1977, while recent graduates Cameron Cook '06 and Lauren Dobson '06 were surprised to hear how similar their stories were to their own.
Coach Vanco, the current head coach for the Lady Blue hose, welcomed the alumna and thanked them for paving the way or a women's program that is still strong today.
Randy Randall, the first Women's coach in 1977 shared with the group how the team was started and how they built a team on one athletic scholarship. He told stories of bus rides to away games and how many traditions are still alive today.
At half time the alumna were recognized for their leadership and hard work throughout the past three decades and were given white roses from the current players as a token of their appreciation for leading such a great program. We thank each and every one of you who came back for Basketball Letterman's Day and we look forward to seeing you again next year!
2006-2007 home game schedule ends
The Lady Blue Hose faced Tusculum College on Saturday afternoon. It was a tough game, and the lettermen cheered hard until the final buzzer. The game was tied 60-60 with 2:16 left on the game clock in the second half, but after a hard fight the Blue Hose lost the contest with a final score of 62-61.
The Scotsman Club Hospitality was buzzing in between the women's and men's game with 22 men's basketball alumni and Scotsman Club members. At half time the men were recognized for their contribution to the history of the basketball program and were given t-shirts that read "Back in the Game." It was a pleasure to have all of our former players on the court again. Among the players was Ronnie Cannon '97 who was named SAC player of the year his senior year. The alumni ranged from Trey Ballenger class of 2006 to Coach Cally Gault who represented the Class of 1948.
With the crowd support from the lettermen, who cheered on the team, the Blue Hose picked up its season-high eighth consecutive victory on senior day with a 53-50 victory over Tusculum College.
With victory, the Blue Hose remain atop the South Atlantic Conference standings with an 11-3 mark in league play. Presbyterian College is 18-7 overall.
The win also ends the Blue Hose 2006-07 regular season campaign at home with PC only succumbing in one contest. Presbyterian College was 12-1 within the friendly confines of the Templeton Center this season.
We look forward to seeing all of our basketball lettermen back again next year! Thank you for all of those who came out to support our team and who have helped build such a great program. GO HOSE!
