    - Individual Consultation: Whatever the student's question might be, we are dedicated to helping find satisfactory answers. Issues such as study skills, time management, choosing a major, finding a summer job, internship opportunity, or preparing for life after college, writing a letter, or figuring out a grade point ratio, often bring students to the Career Services Office. We are glad to help!

   -  Self-Assessment: Several instruments are available to help students learn more about their educational and career interests, as well as their personalities, and how these relate to their overall student development. Students may take advantage of the Major-Minor Finder, the Strong Vocational Interest Blank, or the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator. Individual interpretations of these test results can help students make more informed academic and career decisions. Consultations are by appointment.

Career Resource Library: Career and company literature, books, brochures, annual reports, and other reference materials are available for check-out.

"Intro to Collegiate Life":   A one-credit-hour course offered each fall, this course is designed to facilitate the transition from high school to college and assists students in achieving success both in and out of the classroom. Discussion topics include Campus Resources, Time Management, Study Skills, Note Taking, Test Taking, Library Research, Critical Thinking, Leadership Development, Oral and Written Communications, Coping with Stress, Appreciating Diversity, Understanding Alcohol and Drug Abuse, and Healthy Lifestyles. Enrollment in this course is open during Freshman Registration.

"Strategies for Seniors":  Designed to facilitate a successful transition from college to the "real world," this one-credit-hour course for seniors is offered each fall semester. Topics explored include Preparation for Graduate School, Resume Writing, Interviewing, Job Search Correspondence, Online Job Search Techniques and Resources, Strategies for the new professional, Becoming a PC Alumn, Appropriate Business Attire, and Business Etiquette. Presbyterian College alumni and other professionals are often guest presenters.

Career Fairs and Interview Days:   Three on-campus events and one off-campus interviewing opportunity provide all students access to  employment opportunties and information. A Career and Graduate School Fair is conducted each fall and is open to juniors and seniors. In the spring, Senior Interview Day and Teacher Recruitment Day provide seniors screening interviews on a pre-select basis. A Summer Job and Internships Fair is also held for students.

Resume Critiques:  Resume and cover letter guidelines, drafting assistance, and critiques are provided on request. Appointments are encouraged.

Internship Programs: Participating in an internship will allow the student to explore career prospects, gain work experience and learn more about how their academic major relates to employment opportunities. Drawing on contacts through the local community, faculty and alumni, opportunities will be available for students to review, research and create a unique internship position. Utilizing the services provided for resume building, developing interview skills and creating networking contacts, the office will help students secure internships that meet their academic requirements and support their vocational goals.

Graduate School Advice and Preparation: Peterson's Graduate School Guides are readily available in the Career Library. Assistance with  researching a graduate program, completing applications, and registering to take graduate admissions tests is available through CSI. Practice graduate admissions tests are administered each Fall and students are provided with a results profile and recommendations for improvement when necessary.

Mock Interviews:  Practice interviews are arranged by request for students who wish to have the opportunity to experience an interview in a "no-lose" situation. The interviewer provides important feedback about the student's communication skills, attitude, and appearance.

Programs To Go: Workshops for small Groups- seminars and workshops are available to student groups and classroom presentations are scheduled by request.    Examples: Plan for an Internship, The Job Search Process, Time Management.

Career Planning and Job Search Assistance - Monster Trak: The preferred online service for career advice posting resumes, and searching for jobs. Assistance with this web-based software is available upon request.

Employment Opportunities: Information about current part-time and full-time job opportunities is compiled and disseminated to appropriate groups, classes, or individuals via email. Journals published by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), plus numerous vacancy listings by subscription, are made available to students through Career Services and Internships.
