A Closer Look
The psychology department is located on the first floor of the Harrington-Peachtree Academic Center, one of the newest facilities on campus. If you can, stop in for a visit with a faculty member and get a tour of our specialized labs, classrooms, and student/social areas.
The psychology major at PC prepares you for a wide variety of post graduate degree options, and training in psychology gives you valuable skills to use in a number of professions. Among those skills are critical thinking, problem-solving, organizing, working in groups, writing, and data gathering. In addition, psychology graduates learn about the many biological, personal, cognitive, and contextual factors that influence behavior, knowledge which is important to any career that requires interaction and cooperation with others. You will like our department. Professors are happy to talk with you in their offices or in other informal settings on our hall, around campus, and often in their homes. You will find many opportunities for cooperative endeavors with faculty and other students as you learn about the complexities of behavior and cognitive processes.
As a qualified junior or senior, you can gain practical experience and insight through an internship program that places you in an area of particular interest. You earn credits toward graduation and acquire valuable expertise for graduate school and/or job positions.
If research excites you, you’ll find that in our department, too. You will work with one or more faculty members and perhaps other students on a project designed to further our understanding of some aspect of behavior or cognitive processes. Graduate schools are particularly keen on this type of experience when it comes to graduate admissions.
