Confucius Institute

PC's Confucius Institute is not only an educational coup for our students who wish to understand China as a global economic power, but one that presents educational opportunities for the Upstate community and all those associated with Presbyterian College.

The Confucius Institute, based at Presbyterian College, and consisting of a collaboration of Presbyterian College and its Chinese partner university Guizhou University(student population 42,000), its Upstate college collaborators, Furman, Clemson, Wofford, and Converse (combined student populations in excess of 10,000) , the Upstate Alliance, and the Global Trade Consortium with the Tianjin Free Trade Zone will expand our Chinese and Asian studies program in a three-pronged approach that will serve our students, business leaders who wish to acquire the skills necessary to interact directly with the rapidly growing Asian market, and South Carolina’s school children in grades K-12.

Officially open in November 2009, the Institute’s Board of Advisors has now created two subcommittees, Business and Education, to assist in the development of the programs of the Confucius Institute. Dr. David Liu, the director of the Institute, will work with these two subcommittees and direct and coordinate the work of the faculty members and China experts from our five partner institutions.

Why China? Asia is one of the great areas of the world, both in terms of population and a growing importance to the world business climate. Students who participate in the Confucius Institute and PC’s Chinese studies program will be highly competitive in the job market and equipped to shepherd American interests on the Chinese stage.

Your gifts to the Chinese studies program help us prepare PC students to lead on the global stage.
