Testing Acceptance Scores

Students entering from high school can receive credit for Presbyterian College classes via these examinations:

  • College Board Advanced Placement (AP)
  • Internal Baccalaureate (IB)
  • College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

Listed below are the scores that we accept, and the courses for which they earn credit.

College Board Advanced Placement Program (AP)
High school students have the opportunity to pursue college-level courses in their own high school, be tested on achievement, and earn college credit and advanced placement.

Listed below are the AP examinations for which Presbyterian College may award credit. Some credit may not apply to your individual program of study. See your academic advisor to determine program applicability.

  • Biology
    • A score of 4 will earn 8 credits for BIOL 105, 105L and BIOL 106, 106L or 112, 112L.
  • Chemistry
    • A score of 4 will earn 4 credits for CHEM 101 and 101L.
    • A score of 4 plus 70 on departmental exam (student’s option) will earn 4 credits for CHEM 102 and 102L.
  • Computer Science
    • A score of 3 will earn 4 credits for CSC 241.
    • A score of 5 will earn 8 credits for CSC 241 and 242.
  • Environmental Science
    • A score of 4 will earn 4 credits for BIOL 215.
  • Macroeconomics
    • A score of 4 will earn 3 credits for ECON 201.
  • Microeconomics
    • A score of 4 will earn 3 credits for ECON 202.
  • English Language/Composition
    • A score of 3 will earn 3 credits for ENGL 109.
    • A score of 4 will earn 3 credits for ENGL 110 and 111.
  • English Literature/Composition
    • A score of 3 will earn 3 credits for ENGL 109.
    • A score of 4 will earn 6 credits for ENGL 110 and 111.
  • Geography, Human
    • A score of 3 will earn 3 credits for GEOG 301.
  • History, European
    • A score of 4 will earn 3 credits for HIST 2401.
  • History, United States
    • A score of 4 will earn 3 credits for HIST 2200 or 2201.
    • A score of 5 will earn 6 credits for HIST 2200 and 2201.
  • History, World
    • A score of 4 will earn 3 credits for HIST 1100 or 1101.
    • A score of 5 will earn 6 credits for HIST 1100 and 1101.
  • Foreign Languages: Language or Literature (French, German, Latin, Portuguese, Spanish)
    • A score of 3 will earn 4 credits for 102 (except Latin).
    • A score of 4 will earn 7 credits for 102 and 201.
    • A score of 5 will earn 10 credits for 102 and 201 and 202.
  • Mathematics (Calculus AB)
    • A score of 3 will earn 3 credits for MATH 201.
  • Mathematics (Calculus BC)
    • A score of 3 will earn 6 credits for MATH 201 and 202.
    • A score of 5 will earn 9 credits for MATH 201 and 202 and 301*.

  • Music, Listen: Literature
    • A score of 4 will earn 3 credits for MUSC 1100.
  • Music (Theory)
    • A score of 4 will earn 3 credits for MUSC 1201.
  • Physics B
    • A score of 4 will earn 8 credits for PHYS 121, 121L and 122, 122L.
  • Physics C (Mechanics)
    • A score of 4 will earn 4 credits for PHYS 121 and 121L or 214 and 214L.
  • Physics C (Electricity and Magnetism)
    • A score of 4 will earn 4 credits for PHYS 122 and 122L or 215 and 215L.
  • Political Science (US)
    • A score of 3 will earn 3 credits for PLSC 202.
  • Psychology
    • A score of 3 will earn 3 credits for PSYC 201.

International Baccalaureate Program (IB)
Presbyterian College recognizes the International Baccalaureate (IB) as a rigorous and challenging program and will provide credit after the student is enrolled as a baccalaureate degree-seeking student.

PC will award academic credit to students who have earned grades of 5 or better in their higher-level subjects in the International Baccalaureate Diploma program.

No credit is awarded for subjects passed at the standard or subsidiary level.

Students must have an official IB transcript issued by the New York Office of the International Baccalaureate forwarded to the PC Admissions Office for assignment of credits.

  • Psychology
    • A score of 5 will earn 3 credits for PSYC 201.

College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

Presbyterian College degree-seeking students can earn college credit for knowledge gained outside of the classroom. The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a system of credit by examination sponsored by the College Board.

Students must have an official CLEP transcript issued by the College Board forwarded to Presbyterian College Office of the Registrar for assignment of credit.

  • American Government
    • A score of 50 or better will earn 3 credits for PLSC 202.
  • Economics: Macroeconomics
    • A score of 50 or better will earn 3 credits for ECON 201.
  • Economics: Microeconomics
    • A score of 50 or better will earn 3 credits for ECON 202.
  • Freshman College Composition
    • A score of 50 or better will earn 3 credits for ENGL 109.
  • English Composition with Essay
    • A score of 50 or better will earn 3 credits for ENGL 109.
  • Calculus
    • A score of 55 or better will earn 3 credits for MATH 201.
  • Trigonometry
    • A score of 55 or better will earn 3 credits for MATH 196.
