CHAMPS Mentors

Presbyterian College students and student organizations help CHAMPS students by participating in mentoring and counseling activities, tutoring activities, and joint service-learning projects. PC students help teachers from area public schools, PC faculty, and local community members teach CHAMPS students during the summer residential programs and during the follow-up monthly programs. The curriculum focuses on academic, social, and academic-support activities.

The relationship between the college student and the CHAMPS student is invaluable for both, providing undergraduates with a depth and level of student interaction that is rarely attained in their normal curriculum. The CHAMPS student feels comfortable in the college atmosphere, thereby increasing the likelihood that he or she will pursue a college education.

PC students ready to begin Young Life anew

Years after Young Life's heyday in Laurens county in the '90's, former PC student Michael Vaughan is set to return the Christian-based group to the area.

After moving to Nashville, Vaughan returned to South Carolina in '96, when he began working as a supervisor at Fuji Film in Greenwood. He volunteered with Young Life during the seven years he was at Fuji.
