What can you do to promote sustainability?

Keep the air clean by

  • biking or walking to class when possible
  • conserving electricity
  • carpooling when possible
  • keeping your car tuned up and tires inflated
  • recycling and composting all you can

Save water by

  • taking shorter showers
  • turning off faucets tightly
  • getting leaky faucets and toilets repaired

Minimize waste by

  • recycling everything that you can, particularly plastic, glass, aluminum, paper, and print cartridges

Save energy by

  • turning off your TV, computer, and any other electrical device when not in use
  • turning off lights when you leave a room
  • using only lights in a room that are needed
  • using compact fluorescent lamps (CFL's) instead of incandescent light bulbs

Write a grant proposal.

Organizations such as the Environmental Protection Agency and the SC Department of Energy often have opportunities for schools, businesses, and individuals to receive grant funding to help with environmental programs.
