The St. Jude Up ‘til Dawn team at Presbyterian College is a student-run organization that brings national awareness and on-going fundraising efforts for the kids of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The executive board organizes the program, plans fundraising activities, and hosts an overnight celebratory event at the culmination of the fundraising campaign.
“Joining St. Jude’s Up ’til Dawn Executive Board has been one of the best decisions I have made during my time at PC,” says Patrick Greer, current senior and student coordinator for PC’s St. Jude’s Up ‘til Dawn team.
Throughout the academic year, the Up ‘til Dawn Executive Board members work non-stop to help raise awareness and fundraise for St. Jude’s Children Hospital. The most recent fundraising recent event that the executive board hosted at PC was a “Waffle Night” sponsored by Waffle House. Each participant was required to either pay $3 or list five emails to send out to family and friends to seek donations for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. “Waffle House was very generous in donating all we needed for the event and brought staff to cook all of the waffles for us. We raised over 400 dollars at the event and registered over 50 people for our main event in the spring,” said Matty May, Events and Logistics Chair of PC’s executive board.
“My favorite Up ’til Dawn event is definitely our Spring All Night Celebratory Game when we stay up for good in honor of the patients and families who undergo many sleepless nights,” said Greer. Students form teams of six to participate in the all-night challenge. At registration, students commit to a substance-free night and to stay up for good. Students must raise $100 via online fundraising, side events and sending fundraising letters to earn entry to the all-night challenge. A culmination of Greek life, religious organizations, athletes, and other SVS organizations contribute to Presbyterian College’s monetary donation of more than $80,000 since it was founded at PC. This year’s All Night Celebratory Game will begin on Thursday, March 12 at midnight and conclude Friday, March 13 at 6am. Students can register at www.stjude.org/utd.
“PC has made me thankful for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Though I grew up knowing about St. Jude, it was not till I came to school that I truly fell in love with the hospital. Up ’til Dawn has allowed me, and other board members, to travel to St. Jude in Memphis, Tennessee to experience the amazing children’s hospital first hand,” said Greer. “We are always looking for bright, energetic, caring students who are passionate about St. Jude! Up ’til Dawn is really a rewarding organization to be a part of and I have PC to think for that!”
