"No Pasa Nada" in Grenada
Studying abroad in Spain was the best experience I've had in my life, and the best choice I have ever made. The semester I spent abroad flew by quickly, yet by the end I felt like I had been living in Spain for years, and I was certainly not ready to come home. I have so many memories that it seems like I was there for much longer than four months. I made great friends, and even ended up coming home with a Spanish boyfriend. With no classes on Fridays and a bunch of Spanish holidays, I was able to travel not only around Spain, but also ventured to France, Italy, and Morocco.
I chose Granada, Spain because it is a smaller university city located an hour from the beach and the mountains. I had a beautiful view of the Sierra Nevadas out of my bedroom window. One of my favorite lazy-day activities when I was not traveling was to open my window and watch the people below, listen to them speak, and enjoy the sun's rays gazing down upon me. I lived with a senora who cooked me three delicious meals a day, seven days a week, washed my laundry weekly, and treated me like her own daughter.
While in Granada, I was able to speak Spanish every day, which helped me learn the language much more quickly than in any classroom I have been. Now that I am back in the states, I miss hearing the Andalusian accent, though many may call it a lisp. I miss giving dos besos (two kisses) when meeting someone, and the "no pasa nada" attitude expressed in Granada.
