PC junior studies theater at the University of London
David Galloway, a theater and political science double major, is studying abroad this semester at the Royal Holloway College at the University of London. Galloway will study theater while there and will return on June 17th.
“Since I grew up in Clinton, I made it a point to take every opportunity to see other parts of the world when I get a chance,” he said. “I don’t want to regret (not going) 20 years down the road.”
Galloway chose Royal Holloway College because the school offers a course on a style of Japanese theater that he is interested in studying, called Noh. One of few places outside Japan that offer courses on the stylistic theater, Royal Holloway also has a theater built like the ones in Japan.
In addition to studying Noh theater, Galloway will get chances to perform while abroad and will take other classes, including one on Shakespeare and Britishness.
“I need to stretch myself as an actor,” he said. Studying abroad gives him the chance to do so, offering valuable experience.
With plans to attend graduate school after PC, Galloway wants to act professionally.
“If I want to make it in theater, I must get experience being in a big city,” he said, “and learn my way around a big city and live with not too much money.”
Galloway’s semester abroad will be his second trip to London since he’s been at PC. Last year he went with the PC choir as they toured England, singing in Gloucester, Worcester, and other cathedrals.
