“Hallowinds” Concert at Presbyterian College
On Halloween night, Friday, October 31, 2014, the Presbyterian College Wind Ensemble will present its Fall Concert in Belk Auditorium on the PC campus beginning at 7:30 p.m. This is the second year they have held a “Hallowinds” concert featuring: Halloween-themed selections, costume contest with cash prizes, and candy distribution. Targeted to ALL ages, the concert is FREE to the public.
The Wind Ensemble is directed by Dr. Richard House. Dr. House is in his 4th year as Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Music and eighteenth year teaching at the college/university level. Before PC, he held similar positions at Bridgewater (VA) College, Augusta State (GA) University, and Claflin (SC) University.
The band will perform eight selections, all a part of this Halloween-themed concert. The Complete Harry Potter is a medley of themes from all eight of the popular Harry Potter movies. Senior music major, Cassidy Jarrett, will be featured on xylophone in an arrangement of Charlie Daniels’ The Devil Went Down to Georgia. “If I Only Had a Brain” from the much beloved movie, The Wizard of Oz, will feature senior chemistry major, Paul McGannon, as tuba soloist. Other selections from The Wizard of Oz will be performed during this medley as well. A couple of original concert band works will be performed including: The Witch and the Saint by Steven Reineke and Hocus Pocus by James Syler. Also to be performed is an arrangement of Paul Dukas’ famous orchestral work The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and a medley titled Chillers and Thrillers of John Williams’ suspenseful melodies.
The concert will conclude with Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Dance performances and choreography will be permitted AND encouraged. Come join the Halloween fun!
