Confucius Institute hosts Chinese Corner Costume Party

Thursday, November 6th, 2014, the Confucius had Chinese Corner in the CIH office. The theme of this week’s Chinese Corner was ethnic clothing and the customs of rural Chinese villages. Clothing styles can define a certain culture and this Chinese Corner was used to show history through many different villages and what was their traditional clothing.

The night began with watching an instructional video that looked at many different villages in rural China and described the clothing worn by each. The video was very helpful in explaining why these clothing styles were worn and where they originated from. After the video, the students had the freedom to try on some of the same costumes the video described that were provided by the Confucius Institute.

It was a great hands-on activity that allowed the students to literally take a walk in someone else’s shoes. The students enjoyed learning about rural China and the cultural differences.
