Pharmacy Compounding Competition

Pharmacy Compounding Competition

On January 17th, the Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy hosted a local compounding competition for its pharmacy students. Groups competed in a compounding classic component that features the formulation, preparation, presentation and documentation of three (3) compounded medications. From a list of chemicals provided, students were asked to allocate each one to a specific medication and associated delivery system for a given route of delivery. In addition, there was a written component (test) in which students performed calculations involving compounded preparation and answered questions about general information regarding the compounding of both sterile and non-sterile preparations. There was also a formal debate amongst each of the groups.

The winning group, Rebecca Conley, Ro-Derick Middleton and Dylan Porter will represent the School of Pharmacy at the National Competition on March 21st and March 22nd at the University of Florida.  This national competition will consist of three components in which each group will be evaluated: Compounding Classic, Regulatory Challenge and Quality Compounding.
