Norm Scarborough’s Book 8th Edition

Norm-Scarborough-BookWilliam Henry Scott III Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship, Norman Scarborough, loves writing books and considers it his second full-time job. His textbooks, which focus on entrepreneurship and small business management, ultimately dominate today’s market.

Effective Small Business Management, Scarborough’s first book and Essentials of Entrepreneurship which has been translated into several languages including Chinese, Spanish and Indonesian, have become two of the best-selling entrepreneurship textbooks in the world. Last year, Effective Small Business Management was published in its 12th edition titled Entrepreneurship and Effective Small Business Management while last month, Essentials of Entrepreneurship, was published in its 8th edition.

“Pearson, the largest publisher in the world, is the publisher of both books. Entrepreneurship experts recognize them as the two leading books in the field,” states Scarborough. “Colleges and universities across the globe use them in their entrepreneurship and small business management classes.” Because Scarborough has two leading books, he has to stay on top of the latest trends that are shaping the field. “I am able to share my knowledge and insight with my students. They definitely benefit from this work,” he comments.

Multiple publishers, including Pearson, are moving away from printed textbooks and towards digital products. Pearson requested for Scarborough to develop a digital version of an entrepreneurship book to be used online in a new and interactive format. His concept and sample were recently tested among two focus groups at the leading entrepreneurship and small business conference for educators (USASBE) in Tampa, Florida and received very positive feedback from professors at highly respected universities. Scarborough will continue to work on this project over the next year.

When Scarborough is outside of the classroom and not focusing on his writing, he is very active in the community. He is a member of the Clinton City Council and also serves as the chair of the Board of the Laurens County Community Foundation. Scarborough is actively involved with the First Baptist Church in Clinton where he teaches an adult Sunday School class and serves as a Deacon. You will also find him working with organizations such as SC Business Week, an excellent educational program for high school students sponsored by the SC Chamber of Commerce.
