Presbyterian College Alumnus Inducted into Georgia Music Hall of Fame

Tim Wilson, a 1983 Presbyterian College graduate, acclaimed comedian, and country music artist, was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015. He was awarded the Posthumous Award, and other inductees from the evening included Gregg Allman, Sam Moore, and the band Drivin’ N’ Cryin’.

Wilson, a native of Columbus, Ga., graduated from PC with an English degree. Throughout his life, he was a well-known entertainer, praised for his marriage of music and comedy in his acts. He released numerous albums in which he wrote and recorded songs such as “Garth Brooks Has Ruined My Life” and “The Ballad of John Rocker.” He also helped co-write Jeff Foxworthy’s “Redneck 12 Days of Christmas” and appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno throughout his career.

Wilson died on Feb. 26, 2014. On May 9, 2014, The Bob & Tom Show produced a tribute show in his honor. The entertainment industry certainly grieved the loss of such a talented man, evident in a tweet by Larry the Cable Guy following Wilson’s death: “Tim was a mentor and friend to a lot of us comedians that started in the south: him, Foxworthy and James Gregory. One of the big three. Hat off.”
