CI Brings Chinese Piano Music to PC to Celebrate Chinese New Year

Audiences were left speechless on Thursday, January 26, by that night’s Chinese New Year Concert presented by the Presbyterian College’s Confucius Institute and Music Department. This homage to the lunar new year of the rooster in accordance with the traditional Chinese calendar featured three musical talents from Davidson College and one from our own Presbyterian College and fifteen separate music pieces composed by twelve renowned songsmiths.

Before the performance began, Dr. David Liu gave a speech regarding the significance of this Chinese holiday and wishing everyone in the audience a happy New Year.

Yi Hua comes from Guizhou province of China and currently works as both an intern at the Confucius Institute and a language and culture teacher at Clinton Middle School. She has won numerous awards for her playing of the traditional Chinese instrument guzheng, on which she mesmerized the audience Thursday for two Chinese tunes.

Andrew Haoze Wu, who hails from Shanghai, China, is currently an undergraduate student at Davidson College, has been studying the piano for no less than twelve years and truly captivated all who heard the two works of music he presented at the concert.
