Presbyterian College to name Flo Dowdle recipient of the 2017 Honorary Alumna Award

Presbyterian College will name Flo Dowdle of Clinton, S.C., the recipient of its Honorary Alumni award. The award is given to a person who did not attend PC, but who has always treated the College like his/her alma mater and has brought honor to the College by doing so.

Dowdle is a graduate of Florida State, where she earned her undergraduate degree in accounting. After graduation, she worked for 14 years at Thornwell, where her husband, John, served as physical plant director. In 1973 she came to PC, first as academic recorder, then moved on to assistant registrar, associate registrar, and, eventually, to the position of registrar. In her new capacity, Dowdle maintained records for all academic information, collected and issued grade reports, cleared students for graduation, and produced academic transcripts. She was also responsible for producing registration materials, compiling and printing the class schedule, processing advanced placement hours for incoming freshmen, and determining athletic eligibility clearance.

Following her retirement, she and her husband John continue to attend many PC events ranging from musical performances, student play productions, and most athletic events. Dowdle has several family members who are PC alumni: two brothers-in-law, son John ’80, granddaughter Amanda Dowdle ’14, who works in the Advancement office, and granddaughter Lauren Dowdle, who is a current PC senior. Her support of PC and its students through the years has demonstrated her love of the College and its people as if it were her alma mater.
