PC students present summer research at symposium
More than 20 PC students who have spent the summer researching on campus presented their work during the Presbyterian College Summer Research Symposium Wednesday, July 25.
The students from the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Pharmacy have researched topics across disciplines with one-on-one mentoring from PC faculty.
Wednesday’s event included morning sessions with 15-minute talks by student researchers.
Students also enjoyed a luncheon during the afternoon followed by a poster session at PC’s James H. Thomason Library.
Research opportunities have benefited current and incoming students at the College.
“It’s a great work experience first and foremost,” said McKay Dula, a senior political science and history double major, who researched Nazi propaganda this summer.
“Not only does that help you with work experience, but I definitely think it helps in terms the grad school applications. If you really love something, as well, this is the perfect opportunity to be able to dive headfirst into that subject or that topic or that time period that you are really interested in.”
Undergraduate research allows the College to recruit and retain students and has also produced post-graduate success, according to information provided by Dr. Evelyn Swain, director of the PC Summer Fellows Program.
