About the Elizabeth Stone Harper Art Gallery

Elizabeth Stone Harper Gallery at Presbyterian College is a teaching and public art gallery with a history of art exhibitions and lectures by artists who range from the local to the internationally known. The exhibitions in the gallery function as an integral part of the Art Department program, in which students assist in the installation and de-installation of exhibitions, as well as using the gallery for observation and critique to begin to master the vocabulary of art making and exhibition. Each year, the graduating art majors exhibit a body of work in the gallery as a culminating capstone experience. Concurrent with the senior art exhibition, a student art exhibition displays the work of other students working in the Art Department. Opening receptions for the exhibitions offer students and faculty the opportunity to talk about art outside of class, and also allow interaction with visiting artists, who often stage workshops to demonstrate and teach different methods of artmaking to students and other interested participants. In addition to serving the population of the Presbyterian College campus, students from local schools often visit to see professional art displayed in a manner that is often not accessible to the local community. Members of the community outside of PC also enjoy the exhibitions, and often attend the receptions, contributing to the overall cultural development of Laurens County as well as Upstate South Carolina.

At this time the gallery is closed due to COVID-19. For more information, please contact Ann Stoddard at 864- 833-8635.
