First Presbyterian Church of Clinton to celebrate bond with PC during Sept. 25 special service

A shared history and enduring connection are being celebrated Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Clinton.

First Presbyterian has invited the PC community to a special worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, recognizing the college’s historic relationship with the local church.

PC was founded in 1880 by First Presbyterian pastor, Rev. William Plumer Jacobs, who rallied his congregation and the surrounding community around his dream of starting a college. As the founder of Thornwell Orphanage in 1875, he finally realized his dream of educating local youth orphaned by the Civil War.

The service will honor First Presbyterian’s stalwart support for the college with performances by the PC Choir and student instrumentalists. PC president Dr. Matthew vandenBerg will speak to the congregation, and the Rev. Dr. Buz Wilcoxon, the Marianne and E.G. Lassiter Chaplain and Dean of Spiritual Life, will be the guest preacher.

First Presbyterian and PC invite students, faculty, and staff to the service. First Presbyterian Church is located at 410 East Carolina Ave.
