‘Hometown Heroes’ to be recognized at halftime of Blue Hose game on Sept. 21

Presbyterian College will honor the firefighters and first responders who answered the call to combat a devastating blaze that destroyed or damaged several businesses in downtown Clinton on Aug. 27.

Firefighters and first responders from 31 agencies throughout Laurens County and the Upstate will be recognized on the field at halftime of the Blue Hose’ football game against Gardner-Webb University at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, in Bailey Memorial Stadium.

All firefighters and first responders who served that day – in addition to their families – are receiving complementary tickets and reserved seating for the “Hometown Heroes” event.

“We are deeply grateful for this opportunity to honor the many first responders who put themselves at risk daily to protect people and property — and we want to thank them publicly for their quick response when we needed it,” said PC athletic director Dee Nichols. “We are proud to welcome them on Sept. 21 and we encourage the entire community to join us in saluting them, as well.”

Presbyterian College president Dr. Anita Gustafson expressed the college’s support for those who responded and for those who serve their communities during emergencies.

“At Presbyterian College, we believe that service to others and to the community is paramount,” she said. “On Aug. 27, first responders from all over Laurens County and the Upstate bravely answered the call to serve during a dangerous and life-threatening situation — lending their expertise and training when it was needed. On behalf of the entire PC community, we are thankful for everyone who came to our city’s defense and put their lives on the line to protect our community.”
