Another Successful Spring in the Classroom for PC Student-Athletes

web1114Of Presbyterian College’s 15 sports teams, 12 earned grade point averages of 3.0 or better during the 2015 spring semester. The average GPA was 3.22, with five teams posting at least a 3.4. PC had 184 student-athletes with GPAs over 3.0 and 27 of those posted a perfect 4.0. PC student athletes have maintained and exceeded their previous levels of academic success.

Female athletes recorded an average of a 3.30 GPA, and male athletes ended the spring with an average of a 2.95 GPA. Out of all PC’s teams, men’s cross country posted the highest GPA with a 3.76,  followed closely by women’s cross country at 3.50. Women’s soccer earned a 3.44, while women’s basketball and softball saw the biggest jumps in the department. Women’s basketball increased their 2014 posted GPA of 2.85 to their current average of 3.19. The softball team saw a significant increase as well, improving on 2014 spring average of 3.24 to this year’s 3.58. Other teams that posted 3.0 or higher GPA for the spring semester include: baseball, men’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s golf, lacrosse, women’s tennis, and volleyball.

“The success of our student-athletes in the classroom this spring illustrates the commitment PC is making to not only their progress on the field, but off the field as well,” said Director of Athletics Brian Reese. “Our staff and coaches have done a great job in making academics a priority for their student-athletes, and it shows.”
