About Dr. Peggy Prescott

Dr. Peggy C. Prescott has worked in education in the state of South Carolina for 45 years.  She is currently an adjunct instructor in the Education Department.

Previously, she served as dean of the Laurens County Higher Education Center, a branch campus of Piedmont Technical College for six years.   Dr. Prescott also served there as Coordinating Director of Secondary to Post Secondary Initiatives.

Before working at PTC, she was employed by the South Carolina State Department of Education for six years as a curriculum developer for the Workplace Resource Center and was a licensed WorkKeys job profiler.  At the same time, she taught at Webster University in Columbia, S.C. and served as administrative assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C., a private, four-year HBCU.

Before that, Dr. Prescott was a K-8 and elementary school assistant principal and principal for 18 years and a classroom teacher for three years.

She has been married for 46 years to her husband Ed, who coached and taught in Laurens, and has three adult sons and daughters-in-law – Will and Blakely, Collins and Jessica, and Brett and Kristin.  She has nine grandchildren – Ryan, Will, Sadie, Henry, Lane, Nora Liv, Brady, Claire and Brett.  She has one rescued dog, Mocha and a horse, Star.  She is an active member of First Baptist Church, where she enjoys singing in the adult choir and playing hand bells.  She loves horseback riding, Christian and beach music, shag dancing, reading and teaching college students.

She served on the Board of the Laurens County Health Care System as secretary, and chaired the hospital board Quality Committee.  She served on the board of the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce, the Recreation and Tourism committee, Workforce Development Committee, and 100 Club board.  She served on the Laurens Community Foundation board, the LaurensFirst Economic Development Corporation board, and co-chaired the Animal Shelter Committee for the Laurens County South Carolina Humane Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Dr. Prescott graduated from the South Carolina Technical College State Leadership Program in 2006 and is a graduate of the 2005 Leadership Laurens Class XV.  She continued to serve on the LLC Board of Regents for five years, helping create the Junior Leadership Laurens County program for high school students in 2010.

Dr. Prescott was named Rotarian of the Year for 2010, received the 2010 Henry Laurens award, and was given the 2010 Distinguished Service Award from the S.C. General Assembly.
