About Mr. Johnson

Joseph Louis ‘Trey’ Johnson III enters his first season as Director of Basketball Operations at Presbyterian in 2019.

Last season, Johnson was an assistant coach at Francis Marion, where he was in charge of recruiting visits, was the recruiting coordinator for four states (SC, NC, VA, GA), and was responsible for player development.  He coached Peach Belt Conference Co-Freshman of the Year and Co-Player of the Year on the way to the Patriots’ trip to the NCAA tournament.

“Coach Johnson is a young man who possesses a great deal of energy & passion.  He has worked extremely hard in this profession and he is a guy who has no problem serving others.  His ability to cultivate relationships with our players and organize a lot of our day to day operations will play a major part to our success. I’m very excited to have him on staff.”

Johnson went to Francis Marion following his time as a manager at Charleston Southern, beginning prior to the 2014-15 season.  He was promoted to head manager after his first season and earned a scholarship. His duties included managing game and practice set up, preparing for recruiting visits, assisting with video operations, scouting, and equipment management.

Johnson has also worked several basketball camps throughout the region over the course of his young career.  He served as a commissioner for both the Barclay Radebaugh Basketball Camp and Earl Grant Basketball Camp. Other camps include the Frank Martin Basketball Camp, Duke Basketball Camp, Carolina Forest Basketball Camp, and Manzer Skills Academy.  Johnson has also served as an assistant coach with a traveling youth basketball team.

A native of Myrtle Beach, Johnson graduated from Charleston Southern in 2018 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management.  He has a son, Jeremiah.
