Job Description Summary

Responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of all systems designed to ensure compliance with NCAA, Big South Conference and College rules. Serves as the primary liaison between athletics, Registrar, individual faculty members and advisors in regard to the academic well-being of our student-athletes.

Duties and Tasks

  • Responsible for compliance with all institutional, conference and NCAA policies, rules and regulations concerning recruitment and eligibility of student-athletes.
    • Enforces all Big South Conference and NCAA bylaws, rules and regulations.
    • Develops and conducts continuing rules and compliance education programs for coaches, staff, student-athletes and boosters.
    • Provides rules interpretations and conducts monthly compliance meetings for coaches and staff.
    • Maintains and updates data in the NCAA’s online program, Compliance Assistant (CAi), and recruiting software, ARMS.
    • Maintains accurate and complete student-athlete and department files including a Compliance manual and student-athlete handbook.
    • Monitors initial, continuing and transfer eligibility.
    • Serves as the Athletics representative for all NCAA compliance issues.
    • Builds and maintains working relationships with College personnel in such areas as Provost’s Office, Admissions, Registrar’s Office, Business Office, Student Life, and Advancement.
    • Investigates, documents and reports all violations to the Sr. Assoc. AD for Internal Operations, the NCAA, and President, if needed.
    • Designs and implements compliance forms and policies as needed, including those related to documentation of recruiting practices, GIA and NLI, employment, athletic personnel, eligibility and awards and benefits.
    • Prepares annual Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Graduation Success Rate (GSR) reports.
  • Coordinates services for academic support for all athletic teams and student-athletes
    • Interfaces with the Office of the Registrar, Provost, and Dean of Academic Programs.
    • Monitors class schedules, grades and student-athlete academic progress toward degree.
    • Communicates team academic performance to department and campus personnel.
    • Supervises Tutor Coordinator and student-athlete tutor program.
    • Provides student-athletes, coaches, advisors, and related staff academic information related to college, conference, and NCAA academic policies.
    • Monitors missed class time.
    • Provides student-athletes with referrals to other campus services, and additional academic assistance, as needed.
  • Assist the Senior Associate AD for Operations in implementing institutional and department policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge Skills, Abilities, Experience and Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required, 3 years of related experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with coaches, students, faculty, administration and community.

Preferred Education and Experience (if applicable)

  • Master’s Preferred.
  • Experience with compliance software, including ARMS and Compliance Assistant.

Work Environment

Typical office environment. Ability to work weekends and evenings as needed and to maintain confidentiality.
