Assistant Professor of Physician Assistant Studies and Associate Clinical Director

 

Reporting: Program Director, Physician Assistant Program

 

Job Description Summary:

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Associate Clinical Director is responsible for assisting the Clinical Director with assigned duties related to the clinical phase of the Physician Assistant Program.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Clinical Director in coordinating the program’s clinical phase under the Program Director’s leadership.
  • Be responsible for all aspects of ARC-PA accreditation processes and standards related to the clinical phase of the PA program.
  • Effectively incorporate student feedback into teaching and administrative responsibilities.
  • Assist in leading the daily program administration of the clinical phase of the program, including student placement, student records management, student CV development, clinical experiences, and documentation required.
  • Assist with developing, implementing, and assessing academic performance evaluations within the clinical phase, including End of Rotation assignments, PACKRAT, OSCE examinations, and End of Rotation Exams.
  • Helps coordinate, prepare, and administer the final summative examination and OSCE examination.
  • Participate in coordinating and conducting site visits to PA students during clinical rotations.
  • Review clinical syllabi and, if appropriate, propose changes to the Academic Director for approval.
  • Ensure compliance with educational objectives during the clinical phase of the program.
  • Troubleshoot concerns related to clinical year students and/or clinical sites and preceptors
  • Assist in coordinating Special Topics lectures that occur during Call Back Days.
  • Under the guidance of the Academic Director, provide classroom instruction preparing and presenting relevant course content.
  • PA faculty are expected to participate one day per week in a clinically related activity

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Help to monitor program academic integrity.
  • Provide ongoing program evaluation in conjunction with other faculty members.
  • Participate in student recruitment, admission, and selection process.
  • Provide input to the various PA committees
  • Perform student advisement and academic counseling.
  • Provide input to faculty in designing, implementing, coordinating and evaluating the curriculum.
  • Participate in various community and civic activities.
  • Participate in scholarly activity.
  • Participate in college committees.

Requirements:

  • Nationally certified (NCCPA) physician assistant
  • Must hold a current, valid, unrestricted, and unqualified license to practice medicine as physician assistant in the state of South Carolina and s/he may not hold any license that is restricted or qualified in any manner.
  • Minimum of a Master’s degree
  • Prefer a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, including working with preceptors
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong critical thinking, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient written and verbal language skills
  • Excellent skills working with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

 

Preferences:

  • 2+ years’ experience in teaching in an academic setting
  • Strong quantitative and analytic skills
  • Actively practices medicine in a clinical setting
