Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach

Job Description Summary:

To assist the Head Coach in maintaining a highly competitive and NCAA compliant Division I men’s basketball program, which includes: contributing to the recruitment process of prospective student-athletes, practice planning and execution, in-game coaching, self and opponent scouting, and player development. The Assistant Coach will serve as a liaison between the men’s basketball program and all university support staff to ensure academic and fiscal integrity and competitive excellence.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Support and assist the head coach in the development of a sports program that challenges student-athletes to succeed individually and as a team within the structure of the Department of Athletics.
  2. Provide student-athletes with appropriate coaching by imparting knowledge of the game and strategies for success.
  3. Utilize video and other technology to provide instruction.
  4. Design and implement skill instruction drills for individual and team practices.
  5. Effectively recruit student-athletes that can be successful within the team system developed by the head coach and demonstrate a commitment to assisting student-athletes achieve academic success.
  6. Assist the head coach in creating a positive educational environment.
  7. Encourage student-athletes to participate in the institution and department’s personal growth opportunities.
  8. Work with the Athletic Academic Services department as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two plus years of college basketball assistant coaching experience
  • Former playing experience
  • Experience in team travel
  • scheduling and budgeting
