Job Description Summary:

Primary responsibilities of the Head Cheer Coach include, but are not limited to: the overall operation and success of the Presbyterian College cheer program; ensuring student-athlete safety and well-being; providing principled leadership to student-athletes; identifying and successfully recruiting qualified student-athletes; promoting student-athlete development and academic success; ensuring sound management in matters of student-athlete conduct; establishing optimal team performance and program management; budgeting and ensuring fiscal responsibility; compliance with NCAA, conference and institutional rule and regulations; and other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and administer all aspects of the cheer & mascot program.
  • Provide principled leadership that promotes the health and well-being of student-athletes, competitive success, positive attitudes, successful outcomes, strong working relationships, a positive work environment, and a positive student-athlete experience.
  • Encourage and promote an environment within the cheer program which places equal and high value on:
    • Ensuring student-athlete health and well-being.
    • Competitive success.
    • Academic achievement.
    • Providing a positive student-athlete experience.
  • Encourage and promote excellence in academics, progress-toward-degree and graduation of cheer student athletes.
  • Plan and direct cheer program’s recruiting program consistent with annual student-athlete matriculation expectations and roster management needs; Identify and matriculate academically qualified student-athletes who are also persons of character and strong moral values.
  • Ensure rules compliance and conduct of all individuals within the program is consistent with all NCAA, conference, institutional and departmental expectations, policies and procedures; Council, advise and mentor student-athletes.
  • Prepare and operate within the program’s operational and recruiting budgets and adhere to institutional and department budget policies and procedures; Plan spirit program trips and make necessary travel arrangements as needed with the program.
  • Engage in public relations activities, fund raising and positively promote the cheer program, the athletic department and the college with the alumni, general public, community and media.
  • Coordinate public appearances for spirit programs and the Scotty mascot to promote the PC brand.
  • Maintain a visible and positive presence within and among the campus and local communities.
  • Engage in, and also promote participation among members of the cheer program, volunteer activities at least once per semester in college and/or community service projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or his designee. The Assistant AD for Corporate & Ticket Sales is the sport supervisor for Competitive Cheer.


Assistant Athletic Director for Corporate & Ticket Sales

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • High school, college or professional coaching experience.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Be a person of character and possess strong moral values.

Preferred education and experience:

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Prior collegiate cheer coaching experience preferable
  • AACA (American Association of Cheerleader Coaches & Administrators) Certification preferred.
