PC’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Week Honors Dr. King

Presbyterian College will honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with events on January 13, 15, and 17.

Those who attend the women’s basketball game against Campbell University on January 13 at 2:00 can bring toiletries and canned goods in lieu of purchasing a ticket. The donations will help those in need in the local community. A halftime performance during the game will honor Dr. King.

PC will celebrate Martin Luther King Day itself with several events throughout the day. Students will volunteer in locations across Laurens County during the Day of Service, while an MLK reception will take place in Edmunds Hall.

An MLK Convocation is scheduled for Monday, January 15 at 6 p.m. and will feature Dr. Brian Johnson as the convocation speaker. A former president of Tuskegee University, Dr. Johnson has held several administrative and academic posts and has authored and edited seven academic and scholarly works. Among these include two books on W. E. B. DuBois and four works on American history. Dr. Johnson’s article “A Young Man Apart, A World Apart” recounts his experience growing up in inner-city Durham, NC.  Alumna Carla Jones ‘92 and the Mass Community Choir will also be featured at the MLK Convocation.

On Wednesday, January 17, PC will host a blood drive on East Plaza from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Then, at 6:30 p.m., the College will hold a Rise Against Hunger event at First Presbyterian Church in Clinton.
All of the Martin Luther King Week events are sponsored by Multicultural Programs, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Athletics, and Religious Life and Service.
