Presbyterian College Sodexo Dining Services management team members and staff volunteered 21.5 unpaid hours this past spring at the Open Door Christian Center Soup Kitchen in Clinton.

Sodexo Inc. is headquartered in Gaithersburg, Md.   The PC dining staff’s service was a part of Sodexo Inc.’s nationwide Servathon and Stop Hunger Campaign. During Servathon Sodexo employees around the world join forces to fight hunger in their local communities. It is Sodexo’s largest global Stop Hunger event.

For their part, the PC staff organized the Open Door’s dry goods pantry and served lunch for about 50 guests per visit – visiting on three separate occasions. Participating staff included: Alicia Adams, Aurora Adams, Krystal Borsch, Bobby Bright, Dot Burwell, Ted Burwell, Yolanda Cancel, Jason Koeing, Jane Lyons, Amy Parton, and Aaliyah Watts.

“Valuing employee engagement, I am proud that Sodexo at Presbyterian College Dining team has the opportunity to work with our campus and Clinton communities through hands-on volunteering at the Open Door Kitchen,” said Koeing, Sodexo’s general manager at PC.

“Servathon has been near and dear to me since I on boarded with Sodexo three years ago,” said Borsch, retail manager at Springs Dining Hall. “Upon my arrival with PC Dining Services I was inclined to make a strong presence in the Clinton community by spearheading this project. Jason allowed me this opportunity to lead our group to any location of my choosing. I was introduced to the Open Door by Jason’s mention of our tradition of donating any leftover food during academic breaks to this particular location. I thought why not donate our time as well as our goods.”

Borsch continued, “Developing this relationship with The Open Door non-profit organization and our Sodexo team has been fulfilling and I hope the relationship continues to grow beyond this year!”

“Krystal did a fabulous job coordinating the Servathon efforts and we look forward to paying it forward again,” said Koeing.

In addition to providing a soup kitchen, the Open Door Christian Center offers a recovery program, transition housing for men that have completed the program, and shelter for women and children. The soup kitchen was started in April 2012 and served more than 15,000 meals that first year. It is currently open five days a week from noon to 1 p.m.
