Presbyterian College fraternities and sororities are winding down their annual Greek Week. The festivities began Monday, April 13th, and will end this Saturday, April 18th, with the Greek Olympics. The week’s events were designed to both highlight the values of the organizations within the community and to enhance the interfraternal and panhellenic relationships of PC’s fraternity/sorority students. Three teams, each comprised of two fraternities and one sorority, competed for points – which will culminate in the crowning of the Greek Week champions, who will then have first pick at selecting dates for their events on the fall Greek calendar.

The teams only have two more chances this week to earn those coveted points. From 5-11 p.m. on Friday points will be given out based on the amount of money raised by each team at the Dunk Tank at the Spring Fling Carnival, located on the Plaza in front of the Greenville Dining Hall. It costs guests $1 to dunk a member of a fraternity or sorority, and all proceeds from this attraction will go to the Interfraternity Council’s (IFC) and Panhellenic Council’s respective charities (Bindy’s Body-Walk and Circle of Sisterhood). From 10-11 p.m., the Councils’ adviser, Annalise Sinclair, will also be getting into the tank to help support these causes.

Greek Week will culminate Saturday in a display of strength, mental fortitude, and overall vigor the teams posses with military-style field events during the Greek Olympics. Points will be given out based on each team’s performance in the individual events. The competition lasts from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on East Plaza.

The week has also included such events as the BBQ Competition, where the fraternities nominated “grill masters,” and the sororities brought side dishes to MSY for the competition. Faculty and staff members served as judges, and points were awarded for the best meals. On Tuesday, the students also participated in a Selfie Competition – fraternity and sorority students all wore shirts with their organization’s Greek letters on them and posted selfies with other organization members and their letter shirts. Points were awarded based on the number of teammates in the picture. Wednesday night, the organizations also competed in “The Greek Life Show,” based off of the Newlywed Show, to proudly demonstrate how well they know their brothers and sisters.

The teams also participated in a Service Day at the Laurens County Hospice Thrift Shop in Clinton. This is a volunteer-based establishment that provides very low cost, second-hand clothing to the community. The Greek teams were asked to go volunteer at the thrift shop in one hour shifts. Points were given out based on the number of team members who volunteered.

The week’s events were organized  by the Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Council, in conjunction with the Office of Student Involvement. Approximately 43 percent of PC students are involved in fraternity and sorority life. It has been an integral part of PC’s culture since 1890, when Pi Kappa Alpha founded its Mu chapter at PC .
