Margaret Fleming ’15: History and Masters Study in Scotland
During my undergraduate studies at Presbyterian College as a history major, I physically and theoretically traveled around the globe studying, analyzing, and interpreting historical works and connecting them to the here and now. Classroom lectures taught by dedicated professors made history relevant, awakened my interest and enthusiasm, and left me yearning to know more. As a history major, I acquired invaluable research and writing skills essential to any profession. The library became my second home as I sifted through numerous primary and secondary sources to find just one more piece of evidence or supporting documentation necessary to formulate my thesis.
My travels will continue as I embark on my next great adventure, Scotland. This fall I will be attending the University of St. Andrews pursuing a Masters degree in Modern History. I strongly believe that only through exposure to other cultures can I bring my studies in history to full fruition. The University of St. Andrews will not only challenge me with rigorous academics but also immerse me in a different culture. I have found my passion through the stories my professors have shared and I know through this special experience in Scotland I will one day have my own unique tales to tell. I owe much to the dedicated professors in PC’s History Department who continually encouraged and challenged me throughout my years as a history major. Their constant support and mentoring strengthened my confidence and my capabilities. I consider myself fortunate to have been able to learn from these incredible professors, and I am confident that the knowledge and skills gained under their tutelage will sustain me as I pursue my future endeavors.
