China Scholars | Presbyterian College

Blending experiences in the classroom with adventures abroad.

The China Scholars program provides students with the opportunity to pursue Chinese language and cultural studies.

As freshmen, students in the program enhance their knowledge of the Chinese language and culture by enrolling in two Chinese language courses, Chinese 101 & 102, as well as Introduction to Chinese Studies. In the summer following their freshman year, China Scholars embark on a four-week intensive residential program at Guizhou University, a partner school of the College. While in China, China Scholars study the Chinese language and culture, where they experience the culture first-hand by engaging in discussions with native speakers, sampling the local cuisine, and taking way too many photos for Instagram. A $2,000 scholarship is awarded to all China Scholars to help cover the costs associated with this experience abroad.

Students’ exposure to the Chinese culture does not end once they return from Guizhou University. While on campus, China Scholars have the opportunity to partner with visiting Chinese students for mutually beneficial conversation practice and cultural engagement. Plus, students’ experiences will be enhanced by participating in the cultural events sponsored by PC’s Confucius Institute.
