This program is a full scholarship program sponsored by Confucius Institute Headquarters (or “Hanban”) to support foreign students, scholars and Chinese language teachers to study Chinese Language and Literature at Guizhou University (GZU). Since 2010, a number of 100 students have enrolled at Guizhou University under Confucius Institute Scholarships.

Categories of Scholarship and Eligibility

The 2018 Confucius Institute Scholarship offered by Guizhou University includes Scholarships for One-Academic-Year Study Students and Scholarships for One-Semester Study Students. Applicants shall be non-Chinese citizens in good health, aged between 16 and 35 (Chinese language teachers in post shall be aged below 45). The field of study (specialty) is Chinese Language and Literature.

Application and Enrollment

1. Applicants shall visit the Confucius Institute Scholarship website at, set up an individual account, fill out the Scholarship Application Form online accurately, upload the required documents, and submit the Application before the deadline May 24, 2018.

Required application materials:

  1. Digital photo
  2. Scanned copy of your valid passport photo page
  3. Scanned copy of your HSK and HSKK result reports (valid for 2 years). Applicants with Confucius Institute Scholarship Certification from “Chinese Bridge” Competitions can submit the certificates as application documents.
  4. A Recommendation Letter signed by the head of the recommending institute (including objective comments on the applicant, including whether the applicant is a student of the Confucius Institute or of another identity);
  5. Notarized certificate of the highest diploma (Prospective diploma winners must submit Student Status Certificate by their current school)
  6. Scanned copy of personal signature;
  7. Application statement (applicant’s statement of study background, plan and purpose for studying in China);
  8. Physical Examination Report


  • Please prepare the application under the guidance of the Recommending Institute;
  • Please provide information and materials faithfully, and make sure the application details such as scholarship category, institution, study duration and study specialty are accurate;
  • The files of digital photo and personal signature uploaded should be smaller than 300 KB, and the other uploaded files should be less than 2 MB. All files should be in “ *.jpg/*.gif/*.bmp/*.jpeg” format.

2. After submitting the applications and uploading relevant supporting documents online, applicants should request their recommending institutions to approve their applications in the Scholarship System, and then the applications will be forwarded to Guizhou University and Hanban for further evaluation. For timely admission, all valid applications should be approved by the recommending institutions in the Scholarship System before May 25, 2018.

3. The review and evaluation of the applications will take a few weeks. During the process, applicants should pay attention to the application status and remarks in the Scholarship System. The list of scholarship winners will be confirmed in late June, followed by the delivery of enrollment documents to the recommending institutes or directly to the scholarship winners in July.

GUIZHOU UNIVERSITY is located in Guiyang, the capital city of Guizhou Province and a major city in southwestern China. Guiyang is dubbed “a shinning pearl” on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. With an average altitude of 1,000 meters, the City is known for its agreeable warm winter and cool summer, with the summer temperature hovering between 19 to 26 degrees Celsius. The Karst landscapes account for more than 85% of the total area of the City, characterizing spectacular scenes of peak clusters, canyons, valleys and caves. The 41.78% high forest coverage makes Guiyang the first “National Forest City” and the “Natural Oxygen Bar” of China. Seventeen long-dwelling ethnic minorities including Miao, Bouyei and Gelao have been co-prospering here in harmony, forming a magnificent view of multifarious blooming ethnic cultures.
