Then the Gilman Scholarship might be the perfect fit for you!
The U.S. Department of State offers the Gilman International Scholarship which allows students who are Pell Grant recipients to study abroad with scholarships of up to $5,000. They additionally offer scholarships for students from military families for $5,000. For students who are studying critical needs languages (Korean and Japanese), they are eligible for an award up to $3,000 and students who are conducting STEM research abroad are eligible for financial assistance up to $1,000.
Eligibility Requirements:
- U.S. citizen or national
- Undergraduate student in good academic standing
- Federal Pell Grant recipient
- Participating in a credit-bearing program abroad up to an academic year in length
- In the process of applying for, or accepted to, a credit-bearing study abroad/internship program in a country with an overall Travel Advisory of 1 or 2, according to the U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory System
Application Deadlines:
- Thursday, October 10 (For overseas programs that start December 2024- October 2025)
- Thursday, March 6 (For overseas programs that start May 2025- April 2026)
