Apply for a need-based scholarship!

Meet with a Financial Aid Representative to discuss the financial aid implications of studying abroad. PC aid may only be applied to Exchange Programs. Be sure to learn the financial logistics involved.

If you want to study abroad but are unsure how to afford the cost of travel, you may be eligible for many scholarships and fellowships that can help make your semester or year abroad an affordable reality.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

Want to study abroad but are worried about the expenses? Are you also a Pell Grant recipient?
Then the Gilman Scholarship might be the perfect fit for you!

The U.S. Department of State offers the Gilman International Scholarship which allows students who are Pell Grant recipients to study abroad with scholarships of up to $5,000. They additionally offer scholarships for students from military families for $5,000. For students who are studying critical needs languages (Korean and Japanese), they are eligible for an award up to $3,000 and students who are conducting STEM research abroad are eligible for financial assistance up to $1,000.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • U.S. citizen or national
  • Undergraduate student in good academic standing
  • Federal Pell Grant recipient
  • Participating in a credit-bearing program abroad up to an academic year in length
  • In the process of applying for, or accepted to, a credit-bearing study abroad/internship program in a country with an overall Travel Advisory of 1 or 2, according to the U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory System

 Application Deadlines:

  • Thursday, October 10 (For overseas programs that start December 2024- October 2025)
  • Thursday, March 6 (For overseas programs that start May 2025- April 2026)
